In the streets of Melbourne there is a place where colours collide and people pause as street art overwhelms the pathway. A neon lane where society is challenged and thoughts are provoked. Where the humble rubbish bin becomes a work of art. A place where the walls can talk and the conversation frequently changes as new street art pieces are added over and over again.
It’s impossible to walk past without taking a moment to look at one, if not many, of the artworks that explode from the walls. For, what if we fail to stop and they are not there next time? Who knows how quickly the next street artist will lay their claim to the brickwork and publish their message?
While the main streets are busy with people hurrying, head down with eyes towards their feet, from one destination to the next, here a silence has fallen. Eyes are lifting upwards from the gutter to where the street art meets the sky and sneakers are strung over power lines. The serenity of the quiet observation and hushed voices are interrupted by the sound of camera shutters as visitors try to capture the beauty of these walls while they still exist.
Click! Next time you visit the artworks may be gone.
